Maureen FitzSimons's achievements as a young performer in America (which we call Maureen O'Hara today) would certainly put her in the child-prodigy category. As a person with Irish heritage, and surrounded as she was by gifted parents, and her family was naturally gifted, it came as a natural. Maureen made her entrance into this caring haven on August 17 1920, located in Ranelagh (a suburb within Dublin), Ireland. Marguerita Lilburn fitzSimons' mother was an contralto. Charles FitzSimons managed a Dublin-based firm and also owned a stake of "The Shamrock Rovers," famous Irish soccer squad. Maureen was the second of six FitzSimons children - Peggy, Florrie, Charles B. Fitzsimons, Margot Fitzsimons and James O'Hara completed this beautiful family. Maureen was a star athlete and loved rough games. The combination of this natural interest and her talent in performing was astonishing. This is why she was awarded almost all of the Feis Awards for dramatic and acting in her home country. Her acceptance at the Abbey Theater by age 14 as she pursued her dreams of operatic as well as classical theatre and singing.
